Behind the Scenes

As well as being a beautiful place to work, Thorndale Farm is also a hive of activity.  Set in 1000 acres of sheep farming country, there is a lot to take care of.  This section introduces you to some of the people who help maintain the very special environment we enjoy here.  Over the coming months we will talk with more and more of the personalities involved around the Farm.

And the man responsible for making sure all runs smoothly...Gordon Fairbairn, Thorndale Farm's shepherd who we have got to know well since the horses joined the sheep here.

Meticulous preparation by Gordon and his team means that the lambs here get the best possible start in life.

FROM BEEF SHEDS TO TRAINING YARD, HOW IT HAPPENED!

Graeme Lochhead is a familiar face at Thorndale Farm, a place he has got to know very well indeed!

Normally specialising his trade designing and building dairy units, Graeme has carried out a number of farm building projects on the Foxcote estate where we're located and nearby Stowell Park and Mike decided he would be the man to take on the challenge of transforming Thorndale Farm into a top class training facility.

FINE ART IN THE COUNTRYSIDE - LOOK NO FURTHER THAN A HEDGE!

Pete Currill has been applying his trade as a hedge layer for over twenty years.  Based locally at Cold Aston, he keeps himself busy throughout the winter and spring months working on hedges ensuring they remaining thick and healthy.

Hedgelaying is a dying art, where precision and patience are two key prerequisites, and Pete is a master of his trade.  He took a few minutes to tell us what the secret to a successful hedge and the satisfaction he gets from doing a good job.     READ ARTICLE
