Minus 4 and dry when driving in. Dangerous back roads..

Driving.. I have done a great deal recently.. driving and being stationary behind the steering wheel..

Exeter yesterday was very cold  but at least Another Venture warmed his Racing For Maggies partnership with a good run... I know he was not placed but finishing 6th with top weight on that ground was not the worst performance of the week.. that was left to the M5 on the way home..

Some chap tried or wanted to or succeeded in jumping off a M5 motorway bridge and as a result the Police closed both lanes of the motorway for hours....

It was a long wait but some had far longer than I..Zac, Another Venture and I finally made it home late.

The downside was that I was far too late back to have supper with Clare’s parents.. I would have arrived in time for the whisky nightcap..

At Sandown yesterday Red River ran a blinder to finish 3rd..in a Grade 2.. a huge horse with promise.. exciting.. There is much more to come from him in the spring..

Racing lost one of its most endearing characters in Peter Walwyn yesterday. Basil, as he effectionally known was the most outstanding trainer and Lambourn was his life.. You will read may obituaries about this great man in the coming days.. he was something special..

Saturday morning brings David Bass to ride out and Nick and Gail Pearson, Andy Dunn and Katy Warburton here for 'A morning on the gallops and breakfast' as booked through CD Tours.

It was a brief morning with me as I had to leave just after 9.20 to Sandown where we have two runners.. yes a busy day and a difficult one too.. it could be good.. time will tell.

Rhaegar runs at Chepstow, Cascaye and Charbel run at Sandown. The Last Samuri runs at Aintree while tomorrow Diamond Gait runs at Huntingdon.. For my thoughts on all their chances please click here..

I am having trouble with Tom Lacey.. So much so that he pestered me all the way hokme last night whilke stuck on the M5 to remind all 'younger' men heading out for that big night out or Christmas Party to listen to this important piece of news.. Click here to listen.. God help you if you don't heed Tom's advice..

Have a great weekend and see you on Monday..
