JUNE NEWSLETTER 2016
Dear All
May..the best month of the year has gone! Flaming June now and it is pouring with rain..
There is never a dull moment in a racehorse trainer’s life. We have been busy on the racecourse with runners and winners starting to appear for the new 2016/2017 season. Did you notice how we all took a holiday between the finish of last and the beginning of this season - 4 days was it? Anyway the winners have started coming in and most of our runners have been placed when not winning.
The sales season has well and truly started. We have been busy, or rather Aiden Murphy (agent Murphy) and I have been busy at Doncaster Sales, now called Goffs, and Brightwells Cheltenham sales, now called Tattersalls.. yes all change although the end product is the same.. New horses are appearing.
The summer is a time of refreshing the yard with a clean sweep and repairing. The horses are now lounging out in the fields dreaming of winning races in the winter?
Royal Ascot in a couple of weeks and we will be there with our first runner, Sunblazer.. Top hat and tails all dusted off and ready.. See you there?
Have a great summer and I will be back in touch in July when the horses start returning and the boxes start filling.. exciting.
START OF THE NEW SEASON ROUND UP
Royal Supremo won at Sedgfield giving the yard our first winner of the new 2016/2017 season with our first runner... well done Tom Bellamy for riding him so well.
Good old Aunty Ann.. What a lovely lady you are. Now that we have a horse under the same name it is even better.. Both are winners.
Lets deal with the equine version. Aunty Ann was recommended to me via email from Charlie O'Connor.
Charlie suggested that Kim look at her at the forthcoming Cheltenham Tattersalls Sales, (this was in February). We get many such emails before the sales but this one Kim took notice of.. Aunty Ann was and still is small, but perfectly formed; a good walker and great conformation and although slight in stature she looked as tough as nails…
It was Gillian Morgan’s first runner for us and first winner for 4 years.
Gaelic Myth won at Ludlow giving a welcome winner to Tony Solomons.
Tony is my longest serving owner and has had horses with me since my 3rd year as a trainer. Tony, who also has a half share in Harry Topper with David Keyte was not at Ludlow yesterday, but at least he watched the race unfold on Racing UK.
Ballyknock Lad won nicely at Wincanton and under top weight it was going to be tough for him. However, this former Irish point to pointer always jumped well and having been the headlines of yesterday Racing Post write up we were staggered to see him go off at 8/1 in a four horse field..
Well done to Tom Bellamy who has started this season well.. it was Tom's 6th winner of the season.
David Bass returned on a winning note when steering Royal Supremo to a comfortable win over hurdles at Uttoxeter on Saturday night. Good to have him back.. well that was my first thought..
RS finished second on his first start in a bumper at Warwick he then won his bumper at Sedgefield and now he has won his first hurdle race.. you will hear more of him when he returns after his summer break which starts this week.
Aiden Murphy and Kim bought him at The Cheltenham Sales in December off Nick Stokes for Peter and Karin Swann.. The Cool Silk Partnership...
Well done Nam Hai. A winner on the flat at Nottingham yesterday with Willie Twiston Davies on board.
My last winner at Nottingham was over hurdles.. in fact the last hurdle race ever run at Nottingham.
David Cromton and Ken Gray are the two of ten part owners in This Horse Is Sale Partnership who own Nam Hai .. the other eight are owned by me.. 8 shares for sale by the way.. Ring Peter Kerr for details...07901 763 643
