SEPTEMBER 2016 NEWSLETTER
Dear All
August has been and I am afraid I missed the monthly newsletter.
Never mind September is here and things are really revving up for the season ahead.
Most of our horses are back in the yard now and it is looking pretty full. Good news. Yes and the exciting thing is that most of our horses are ready winners.. but then they have not run to prove me wrong!
September also meant that we had yet another owners’ open day which again was a huge success. The horses were a bit skittish when parading but thankfully we all survived it without any problems. If you would like a brochure from the day please let me know and I will send one to you.. You will be able to read all about the horses and their plans.
Talking open days. We have been here 10 years now; how times fly. We moved here in September 2006 with about 28 horses and things were not looking rosy. How things have improved and thanks to a great team here and hugely supportive owners we are having those big winners again.
So September heralds in the proper winter jump racing season and we are all ready to go.
I will be back next month for all the latest from here at Thorndale.
JULY UPDATE
We only had just over ten runners in July but all the horses that we ran, ran incredibly well with two winners and a further six in the winners enclosure.
The first winner in July came with Ballyknock Lad at Worcester. We would love to say it was never in doubt but after rain and the clerk of the course mentioning the ground going softish we were worried as Ballyknock Lad loves quick ground.
Policy Breach was the second winner in July at Stratford for his owner Dan Hall. The slightly longer trip and faster ground was more to his liking than what he had previously encountered.
Forgotten Hero at York and Sonneofpresenting at Perth were both second. Net Work Rouge at Worcester and Ballyknock Lad at Bangor both ended the month with two good seconds.
AUGUST UPDATE
We only had eight runners in August with two winners, a second and two thirds.
What a relief .. A Winner after all those seconds in July!
Ballyknock Lad just held on.
It was a really tough performance and a huge step up class for what was his third (actually fourth) run over fences. BL was taking on seasoned handicappers and some good horses.
BL needs every yard of 3 miles and a big galloping course which is not a helpful combination if you are a summer jumper. Worcester is about your only option.
It really was a relief as we have been having far too many seconds and we thought we had been caught on the line. A relief to hear his number called as the camera angle and the camera man both thought and looked like we were going to be second .
A good win for his owners David and Julie Martin (who were unplaced at York) and Jill Lamb who bought him with the help of Tom Hogan.
Thank God.. Net Work Rouge delivered in style yesterday at Stratford. First time visor saw a very different horse.
NWR jumped off in front and looked to be thoroughly enjoying himself there. Three from home he was joined, and just for a moment I thought that was that as Sam Twiston Davis arrived brimming with confidence on Monsieur Gibraltar as they crept upsides NWR and then pulled back; then NWR went on again.
We looked booked for second place with Sam stalking us.. Into the straight and a great jump at the last and NWR powered home to win by 8 lengths. Delight and relief.
Thrilled for owners Johnny Wills and David Reid Scott. Although David was not with us Johnny and Liz were very happy to receive the Tote trophy. Happy faces. Another good ride from David Bass.
FOR SALE
Grand March is consistent, fun and runs regularly. He is a winner of two hurdle races and runs over both hurdles and fences and is more than capable of winning off his current mark. He is still a novice over fences which will open up plenty of opportunities for him.
This is an ideal opportunity to own a fun horse with every chance of visiting the winners enclosure.

Racing for Maggie's
Henry and Kim are pleased to announce the new charity partnership for 2016-2018.
The 'Racing for Maggie's' Partnership will be raising funds to enable Maggie’s to provide free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends, following the ideas about cancer care originally laid out by Maggie Keswick Jencks.
Built in the grounds of NHS cancer hospitals, Maggie’s Centres are places with professional staff on hand to offer the support people need and there is a centre based locally in Cheltenham.
It is our intention to raise at least £10,000 again for this very worthy and local cause, which - to put it into perspective - would fund the Cheltenham Centre's entire operations for one week. High level and specialised care indeed but a simple and effective way that a significant contribution can be felt.
There are twenty five shares available. For further information and details on joining fee please contact Henry Kimbell. M: 07979 522744 or henrykimbell@hotmail.com or look at our website
