AUGUST NEWSLETTER 2017
August is invariably a quiet month in Jump racing. Annual holidays for those involved in the sport when there is a 10 day period of no racing.
We now have most of the horses back in, although we are still waiting on a few more to come back from owners who are doing their own pre training. The yard is up and running and the horses look well. It is a time of dreaming, as yet we have not done enough work with any of the horses to burst any bubbles. Yes this time of year all the horses are winners.
During the summer we have put in a new round 2 furlong sand gallop which we started using this week. We are always looking to improve what Thorndale has to offer and this new sand gallop will be a great asset.
David Bass our stable jockey has been summering in France or rather riding out for one of their top jump trainers, Emmanuel Clayeux. It has been a beneficial time for him too as different riding styles and different training methods are always good ways to learn. He has also been on the look out for future talent for us.
We are not having an Owners Open day this year. Why? I feel it was time to miss for a year and look to a new format for next. We will though be producing a horses in training brochure which will be out next month. I will let you know when it arrives so you can register an interest if you would like one.
We will be short of runners for the next few weeks but the winter period will soon be upon us and then we will be very busy.
Until next month..
JULY UPDATE
It has been a hive of activity here last month with nearly all the horses returning to work from their summer holiday and new members of staff joining the team here at Thorndale.
Runners wise it has been fairly quiet with only four runners in July but we did have a winner with Sonneofpresenting.
Sonneofpresenting won again, at Worcester this time. Three chases on the trot for this lovely looking horse of Paul and Clare Rooney's. Progressive? Yes. David Bass was content to be handy and jumping the last it was nip and tuck to beat the favourite Wadsworth Court.
We have five new members of staff, Sarah has come all the way from Norway to learn more about the racing industry whilst Sean and Ben have completed a course at the Northern Racing College to start their careers in racing. Also joining the team are James who previously worked for Andrew Reid and Richie Condon who is a conditional jockey who was previously based with Neil King. We hope that they all enjoy their time here at Thorndale.
We have also put in a new flat sand circular gallop. We have been waiting for some time for a sand gallop to go along side our hill gallop and we really believe it will make a huge difference to the horses.
Many UK based trainers have now added sand gallops to their training facilities and they have proved to be a great asset. Not all horses will go on our gallop but most will. It will help the heavy horse and the big horses like Harry Topper and Knockanrawley and of course will be kinder on youngsters than a hill.
I do hope you have enjoyed catching up on our news; don't forget we would love to have you involved in the yard if you are not already; we are just a phone call away.
All the best
