DECEMBER NEWSLETTER 2017
Dear All
November was a good month for us. Horses running well and winning. Our transition over to the new Dodson & Horrell feed has gone well. It takes about 6 weeks to see the benefit of a feed change and it is not something you would want to do mid season, we changed in September ready for the season ahead.
It is very pleasing to see the young horses coming to fruition by winning their bumpers and hurdle races. Yes they are the future and such an important part of any yard. I love buying youngsters at 3 but the down side is that they usually take about 18 months to see a race course, so owners need considerable patience. Long term it has to be the best way to buy horses.
December is now with us and the Christmas period is heading our way all too quickly. A time to be busy and that we will be!
Have a great Christmas and enjoy all the festivities. I am sure there will be many reasons to celebrate
NOVEMBER REVIEW
Sunny has to have fast ground and all summer it has rained; but what odds would you have given about Newmarket being close to firm in November.. well it was and we won.. Well done to his adoring owner Norman Carter; Norman has had a great journey with his horse.
Phil and Gill Andrews invested in racing by buying a share in the KBRP horses Blazon and Vinndicaton from this web site and then they bought Dandy Dan.
Yesterday their Dandy Dan overturned a 7/2 odds on shot of Paul Nicholls to win his first hurdle race after winning his bumper, also at Ludlow, in the spring.
Vinndication was always handy in the bumper and with about 8 horses in a line a furlong from home young Richie Condon gave him a couple of smacks and they powered a length clear to win.
Huge celebrations from his happy team who many had made the long journey to Ludlow. It was Richie’s first winner for us and the Moremoneythan Partnership of Phil and Gill Andrews, Philip and Sandra Arkwright, John Benson, Susan Brien, Chris Hill, Geoffrey Irving, David and Frances Ratcliffe, Darren Smith, Colin Stewart, Dave Wharton and Gerry Worcester had something to cheer and much to look forward to.
WOW another good day in the office. Two winners at Warwick
Brilliant for Penny Perriss to have a good winner and a potentially nice horse. Penny along with husband John have been mates of mine for a along time and are the most loyal of supporters, so a winner for either of them is always good news.
Station Master was almost a last chance saloon horse as poor Penny has not been the luckiest of owners. So many things have gone wrong with her horses over the years that she was beginning to wonder if she was just an ‘unlucky owner’.
Diamond Gait was our other winner and that was in the lucky last, the bumper.
Norman Carter has two horses of his own here and both have now won a 2 miles flat races in the last week.
Good old Cresswell Legend, at last is showing what Kim always said he would.. Languishing under This Horse Is For Sale Partnership last season and having won a bumper Kim saw dollar signs but that was not to be. Virginia Johnson believed in me and was prepared to buy into him and now she has been well rewarded with two runs and two wins. Great for Virginia who just loves her racing, and now her husband David is starting to enjoy it too.. winners help don’t they.
The Lucky Spinners Partnership were very happy people after their horse Silver Kayf won at Huntingdon on Saturday. A good front running ride by Mikey Hamill, Silver Kayf made all and bar knocking the second last out of the ground he was pretty good.
Most of the Peter Kerr’s run Partnership were at Huntingdon so we imagine there were a few sore heads.
Robin The Raven won the EBF qualifier at Ludlow under an inspired front running ride from David Bass. Our David has a good clock in his head when it comes to front running rides.
Anyway a good win for Robin The Raven owners SW Racing John Webber and Richard Sheppard.
The sun shone brightly at Lingfield and we left there feeling warmed by the winning performance of First Flow.
First Flow had a couple of encouraging runs in bumpers finishing 4th in both but this was First Flow's first hurdle race, and we were pleased his owner Tony Solomons was there to witness what looked like a pretty decent performance from his horse. The horse jumped like a buck and David, who is riding so well, took his time on this big horse and produced him to join the leader at the second last before going clear.
I do hope you have enjoyed catching up on our news; don't forget we would love to have you involved in the yard if you are not already; we are just a phone call away.
All the best
