Yesterdays news that Alastair Down had died really was a shock. It was only a week ago that Cornelius Lysaght and I walked in to his box that Cheltenham to celebrate the naming of the Alastair Down Press Room.. He was so proud and delighted with this honour bestowed on him by Cheltenham

Everybody in racing enjoyed his writting and his commentary on the TV.. He was a master of his art and in many respects  a slightly flawed genuis, but a great man to spend time with.. a drink with Alastair was never going to be a short one, but you came away laughing and enlightened. He loved people's company and the one person he missed not seeing at Cheltenham last week was his mate Sir Mark.

There has been so much written about him and you have the chance to read more. We will all miss him as we have missed his articles for the last few years.

Alastair you were a great man and it was a honour to have drunk with you and be in your coompany..RIP..

Aiden O'Brien proves his genius extends to the USA..

Breeders Cup tonight and City Of Troy

Have a great weekend and see you on Monday
