Cheltenham have listened!..

Jon Pullen who is clerk of the course at Cheltenham went to see many trainers earlier this summer to canvas their views on what needed changing for next year’s Festival and the good news is that Cheltenham have listened.

The Grade 1 Turners Novice Chase which was won by Grey Dawning has now been changed to an open ended Novice Handicap Chase.. we won it some years ago with Imperial Aura when it was a 0/145 novice handicap..

It was always a hugely competitive race then so returning to a similar format must be good news... it will surely make the Arkle (2 mile) and Brown Advisory Chases (3 mile) far more competitive..

The other race they have changed is the Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase which will now revert back to a handicap.. Two welcome and good changes.

Tuesday morning as always brings in our vet visit and this week’s movers in the BHA handicap charts was Gerard Mentor who went a rather harsh 6lbs to 92.

Franny Norton is going to hang up his boots on Saturday after riding at Chester.

Archie is named in today's squad to play Sussex..But is unlikely to play..

Bob and Joe erect signs and lettering on office buildings and factories.

One afternoon, Joe is high on a ladder putting up lettering outside ‘Johnson and Pollocks Engineering.’

He’s got as far as ‘Johnson and’ so he shouts down to Bob, “Hey Bob, pass up the letter P will you?”

Bob looks around the back of the van, searching high and low, then shouts back, “I can’t find a P. The only spare letter I can find is a B!”

“Oh shit,” shouts down Joe. “Weren’t we supposed to use the B this morning at the London Brick Manufacturers?!”
