22nd January 2024

Plus 7 and dry when driving in...

That was windy and wet last night, although I hardly noticed it.

How could I after raising several glasses of my finest to celebrate the great horse that is First Flow winning again.

First Flow is my favourite horse at Thorndale.. I adore him and treasure him and yet again he has shown that we don’t train winners in January until we run First Flow..

What an odd ball.. That he has always been, but we know him well although at times I wonder.

Leigh my travelling head girl has been down at the start with him for the best part of the last 4 years.. We have been worried that one day he just might not start and yesterday was the first time that Leigh was needed..He so nearly did not start, but once off there was no holding him.

He was in front almost the first and that is where he remained.. Jumping fast and low he recorded an unbelievably fast time for the conditions and carrying top weight..I was so proud, as was David Bass who like me just loves him.. Yes two odd balls together and both vegans to boot!

So sad that his owner Tony Solomons was not able to be with us.

Tony had a fall on Saturday and has been in hospital and I just hope he was able to watch his wonderful horse had just done.. at least I was able to talk to his daughter Nicola who did watch the race!

Tony is my longest serving owner, Tony has had horses with me from my second season.. A truly wonderful man and all here who have met him would agree.. He loves his racing and really understands it.

First Flow .. 12 years young and rated 158.. Next week he could be 160!..He has run 28 times winning 12, second 6 times, third three times and fourth once..

Many thanks to my team for understanding him. Charly (Head Girl) has suffered on him this week... Mirella has been stuck in fields on him when he decided that the view was too good to move, and to cap it all I have been under his belly when trying to move him when he was transfixed by something 5 miles away.

Our other runners ran well too.

Shantou Express will probably have a break now until the spring and Does He Know showed better form than his Wetherby run..

Thanks for all the messages..So many..

Driving a Tesla meant stopping for a quick charge on the way home, but I charged too quickly hence I ran out of time to finish all the replies..

Great to be back in the winners enclosure and now off that dreaded cold list which should stop all those doom mongers on Racing Uk and the other channels saying my horses are out of form..

Monday morning and a new week.

Cameron Norrie who is through to the second week of the Australian Open is currently fighting to survive the next round against Alexander Zverev..

We have on runner today at Warwick.. Hurlerontheditch heads there and for my thoughts please click here.

Benny Hill would have been a 100 yesterday..
