Plus 8, foggy and dry when driving in.
Stunning racecourse is Ascot. My favourite racecourse to boot.
I walked the course yesterday and it really was looking in pristine condition for their first Jumps meeting of the year..
We intend to run three horses there on Saturday, although I hope the sun does not come out for the next 3 days otherwise that might change!!... If you go racing.. stay for the fireworks.. it is the best show in town..
Rain.. Weather.. 'the rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain' but after seeing the pictures of the horrendous amount of rain and resulting damage they have had in Valencia we must be careful of what we wish for....
Andrew Dietz rang from the Racing Post to ask me for my thoughts on yesterday's budget, just as I finished walking Ascot.. so I was slightly unprepared to talk about it, although I knew that Employers’ national insurance contributions were going up.. That rise alone will cause problems as it means that costs will go up.. Feed companies and all those companies that we use to supply us, who employ more than 4 people will nodoubt be passing on their costs up to cover the ENIC rise?..
Many trainers will struggle..The cost of the budget to Kim Bailey Racing is probably north of 10k, although could be more once I have sat down with my accountant.
Mrs B and I met up with Norman and Brenda Shaw for supper at The Royal Oak last night.. Norman is Sandie Wilkinson's brother.
I spent most of the night walking racecourses!!
On a brighter note..
We took a few horses for an away day this morning..
A zoom call with ATR at 10.20. Re Ascot!
A budget story from Christopher Marriott..
“She asked him, 'How much are you selling the eggs for?'
The old seller replied, 25p an egg, Madam.
‘She said to him, 'I will take 6 eggs for £1.25 or I will leave.
‘The old seller replied, 'Come take them at the price you want. Maybe, this is a good beginning because I have not been able to sell even a single egg today.
‘She took the eggs and walked away feeling she has won. She got into her fancy car and went to a posh restaurant with her friend. There, she and her friend, ordered whatever they liked. They ate a little and left a lot of what they ordered. Then she went to pay the bill. The bill costed her £45.00, she gave £50.00 and asked the owner of the restaurant to keep the change.
This incidence might have seemed quite normal to the owner but, very painful to the poor egg seller.
The point is, why do we always show we have the power when we buy from the needy ones? And why do we get generous to those who do not even need our generosity?
My father used to buy simple goods from poor people at high prices, even though he did not need them. Sometimes he even used to pay extra for them. I got concerned by this act and asked him why does he do so? Then my father replied, "It is a charity wrapped with dignity, my child."
To finish.. A very very Happy Birthday Mrs B...
Important BD for Mrs B's judging by the fact that she has been leaving jewelry catalogs all round the house anyway I have taken the hint and I have bought her a..!
