1st January 2018

Plus 5 and dry when driving in.

Firstly Happy New Year to you all.. yes 2018 is here..

Secondly Happy Birthday to all horses

Newbury on Saturday was a good days racing. The ground was certainly heavy but that did not stop First Flow absolutely bolding up by 20 lenghts.. FF was never headed and never looked like being so.

This big weak horse, who we bought from Karrie Fanshawe really could be pretty useful .. certainly when the ground is very soft.. The tendency are to compare him to Tony Solomons other horse Harry Topper is easy to make.. Well I hope he turns out as good. A good result for Tony Solomons who has been my longest serving owner.. Top man and the most loyal of supporters.

Our other runner at Newbury was Knockanrawley who again ran a blinder to finish 3rd in what looked a very competitive race.. KAR won this race 3 years ago and off a 3lb lower mark.. He has not won since but keeps running well in defeat which means he does not come down in the handicap to be able to win.. Tough on the old boy as today he becomes a veteran.

The new Newbury owners and trainers facility is exceptional.. as was their offer of taking all my owners of KAR up to the Royal Box for a drink after finishing third... about 20 of them…Thanks to Julian Thick  and Mark Johnson for making them all so welcome..It was hugely appreciated by my team of happy KBRP owners..

Yesterday at Uttoxeter it was not such a happy story. Johnny Ocean pulled up again.. Something very much amiss so we have sent him home for a long break.. Ben Arthur is not the most natural of chasers and finished 4th.. probably back over hurdles for him.

Out last night to celebrate the New Year in with Oli and Panda Christie.. Yes starting 2018 feeling particularly fresh this morning!

I am not driving North to Musselburgh to watch Cresswell Legend run..His owner Virginia Johnson is watching at home so will I, or rather from Cheltenham. For my thought on Cresswell Legend’s chances please click here.

Further news from around the yard and its ex inmates.. Battle Dust won his first point to point while Call Claude finished third.. Both at Chaddersley Corbett.

Lets start the year with my favourite story..

A young man wished to purchase a present for his sweetheart and after careful consideration, he decided on a pair of gloves. Accompanied by his sweetheart's sister, he went to a department store and bought a pair of white gloves.

The sister purchased a pair of panties for herself.

During the wrapping, the items got mixed up.

The sister got the gloves and the sweetheart got the panties. Without checking the contents, he sealed the package and sent it to her with this note.

Dearest Darling, This is a little gift to show my affection for you on our Anniversary.

I chose these because I noticed that you are not in the habit of wearing any when you go out in the evenings.

If it had not been for your younger sister, I would have chosen the long ones with buttons, but she wears the short ones that are easy to remove.

These are a delicate shade, but the lady I bought them from showed me a pair that she had been wearing for three weeks and they were hardly soiled.

I had the sales girl try them on and she really looked great.

I wish I could put them on you for the first time.

No doubt other men's hands will come in contact with them before I have a chance to see you again.

When you take them off, blow in them before putting them away as they will naturally be a little damp from wearing.

Be sure to keep them on when you clean them or they might shrink. I hope you will like them and wear them for me on Friday night.

All my love,

P.S. Just think of how many times I will kiss them during the coming year. Also, the latest style is to wear them folded down with the fur showing.
