1st August 2015

Plus 7 and dry when driving in. A warm day ahead.

Paul and Elizabeth Kellar were here second lot to see Elzabeth's horse Faerie Reel.

Richard Hughes retires from the saddle today.

Richard, who like AP McCoy has been a great ambassador to our sport and has likewise been champion jockey, although not nearly as many times as AP, has his last days riding at Goodwood this afternoon.. Yes he hopes, unlike AP, to go out on a winner..

There will not be the fanfare goodbye as was the case when AP retired at Sandown, although in many ways he deserves a huge amount of recognition for what he has achieved

Richard has struggled with his weight but he as always been courteous when talking to the press and the public. His Saturday column in the Racing Post has been a great read and makes sense..

Richard has had the odd ride for me over the years both on the flat but also over hurdles. He rode Polydamus for me one day at Newbury in a hurdle race to finish 3rd. .

We shall miss him yes, but then we will still see him as he starts his new career as a trainer.

Talking career and celebrations..

TNDGB celebrates his 50th birthday today.

Yes he has made it to 50 and the celebrations for this great landmark have been going on all year.. at most sporting venues.

Yesterday he nearly pulled off a big celebration when his Belgium Bill was collared on the line in the prestigious Golden Mile at Goodwood.  The AA would have been needed if he had.

Anyway happy birthday TNDGB.. I am sure TUMCB will give you a fine present..

Have a great weekend.
