2nd October 2019

Plus 5 and dry when driving in.

In cricketing terms yesterday would have been a wash out. Yes it rained..very hard.

David Bass was in this morning and we worked many and you can watch them here - First Lot, Second Lot, Third Lot

Gloucester Rugby Club and now Cheltenham Racecourse Chairman Martin St Quinton was here for a first visit to Thorndale second lot..

Martin who is well known in the racing world has taken over from Robert Waley Cohen as chairman of our local racecourse..

Martin is keen on trainers views on how to improve this great racecourse.

Talk about improving racecourses.. one that will not need any improvement is Towcester.

Towcester not only went to the dogs some years ago but now it has gone completely. One of the saddest closures of a racecourse.

I grew up close to this lovely course when my parents lived in Brackley. I even rode there once and rode work their several times when I was a much younger person.

I have always loved it as a course and I was one of the leading trainers there for many years. Lucky Luk held the 3 miles course record.

Towcester was a racecourse that was loved locally and it gave slow, old fashioned horses a chance to win races. Tough and often a slog up the hill it could be dire at times, but it was always friendly, even on the coldest of days.

I feel sorry for the staff who we last saw there when racing.. Keith Bower and Robert Bellamy to name just two..

Personally I think its closure is a disgrace and I know others courses tried to buy it, but the power of money for racing could not be greater than the current housing need.

Clare last night sat up for the first time. After 10 days of being flat on her back in her neck brace she finally saw her room… and her husband.. I am surprised she did not to go back down again.. ..

Good news and although she is likely to be sporting a neck brace for some months to come she has movement and all being well will be home soon..She has asked me to thank you for all the cards, texts and emails..

I picked up my watch from Martin and Co yesterday, serviced and cleaned.. Thanks Jonthan Dimmer for the excellent service.

Graham Potts our vet was in again this morning...

Now that we are into October we have a new Owner of the month.. Peter Bennett-Jones.. a good read.

FIVE RULES TO REMEMBER IN LIFE:

1. Money cannot buy happiness - but it's far more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than on a bicycle.

2. Forgive your enemy - but remember the asshole's name.

3. If you help someone when they're in trouble - they will remember you when they're in trouble again.

4. Alcohol does not solve any problems - but then, neither does milk.

5. Many people are alive only because it's illegal to shoot them.
