2nd April 2019

Plus 4 and dry when driving in, although there was a short sharp rain shower at 5.30.

Two winners is certainly better than two seconds!

Cresswell Legend and Rose To Fame both won well at Ludlow yesterday, making up for the two close seconds on Saturday.

Cresswell Legend is a bit of a legend here as he is a yard favourite, and yesterday having his first run since a wind op he jumped off in front and really was hardly headed.

It was not all plain sailing as an odds on favourite should be as he was not enjoying the fast ground. Good to Firm it was and it probably rode faster on him, but having said that he won like he should have in the end.

A great result for his owner Virginia Johnson who was there with her husband David. They had only just stepped off a plane from Barbados having been there on holiday for most of last week, so a welcome tonic for jetlag?

Rose To Fame, who I jumped yesterday morning before she went to Ludlow, is not an easy mare. The addition of sheep skin cheek pieces certainly helped, but having said that you could not trust here and David Bass gave her a crackingly good ride to keep here handy and avoid being in front too long.

RTF hit the front 3 from home and as soon as she did she sailed a very zigzag course up the home straight. She flew the last and won well.

This mare is certainly talented, but quirky, and it was good to win in front of here owners Martin Broughton and Nicholas and Cherry Jones, although sadly Giles and Ros Weaver, Tom and Jane Wilson or Steve Broughton were unable to make it.

Cherry Jones who bred Rose To Fame has won with Rose To Fame’s mother Cinderella Rose (we trained to win) and grandmother Miniature Rose and great grandmother Rose Rivine...And they bred the father Fame and Glory...Not many breeders have done that?

I like Ludlow, they had done a good job on their ground in very difficult circumstances; great prize money and a friendly team who run the course.

Good news is both horses who won yesterday are fine this morning.

A post script on Ludlow .. Not sure why I had to explain the improvement in Rose To Fame's form to the BHA stewards.. It was only her second run run over hurdles and probably most horses improve from their first hurdling experience...

Tuesday morning and no Graham Potts today.
