Plus 2 and dry when driving in...

Probably not the best of days at Wincanton on Saturday. Thankfully though all the horses that ran were OK yesterday.

Heros de Romay was not that happy being left on his own in front. He had to force the running...he so needed company while in front.. His ears were pricked looking.. Having forced the pace he was a tired horse jumping the last on that very tacky holding ground which meant loosing second place..

Mr Grey Sky probably ran to form to finish 4th. He has risen in the weights for his two wins and the handicapper has caught up with him.

The same can be said for Percy Veering who was 18lbs higher than his first win and although he was running a cracking race, he suffered a tired fall at the second last.. he would have finished 3rd..

Poor Percy was winded and took a while to get to his feet.. The vets were brilliant, as were the racecourse committee who were quick to gather up his owners and take them to the Directors room for a comforting drink..

There was a big cheer when Leigh led Percy past the stand and thanks for all the emails and texts asking after his wellbeing..Yes people do care.

As you well know I hate the drive to Wincanton and it did not start well when driving along the Whiteway, following a car who went past two horses walking in the opposite direction far too fast and very dangerously..

After checking the riders and horses were OK, I caught up with the driver at the traffic lights at Cirencester and I jumped out of my car to have a word.. One of us was pleased when the lights turned green!

The BHA have many strange rulings and one was when Sandown was called off.

David Bass rerouted to ride Heros and Mr Grey Sky which meant Ciaran Gethings missed out on two rides.. Ciaran could have ridden the favourite in MGS’s race and although trainer and owners wanted him, the BHA would not allow him to do so..Too many jockey changes..The horse won and Ciaran watched from the weighing room and missed out on £1200 of prize money percentage..

Paul and Eileen Martin called in to see his KBRS horse Percy Veering yesterday.. A big pat, cuddle and of course polos for their boy..

Archie back at ‘work’ in Bristol and as we had no runners Mrs B and I took him out to a Sunday lunch.

Jo Anderson performed a miracle to stay on board and win..He has done more for the good of racing as he is appearing in TV and radio this morning talking about his winning ride..

Monday brings a new week, Maya my PA back from a weeks holiday in Northumberland and returned in a courtesy car..Not a crash result!

Talking cars.. I was recently caught speeding (roadworks camera) on the M5 below Worcester and thankfully I have just been offered a welcome speed awareness course.. it will be number 6..it will be 24 hours of speed awareness and still caught!

We have two runners today at Taunton. Behind The Veil and El Rio and for my thoughts please click here.

A woman walked into the kitchen to find her husband stalking around with a fly swatter..

''What are you doing?'' she asked

''Hunting flies.,'' he replied

''Oh kill any?'' she said

''Yep, 3 males 2 females'', came the ansewer.

Intrigued, the wife asked, ''How can you tell them apart?''

Husband: ''3 were on a beer can and 2 were on the phone''
