Plus 12 and dry when driving in.

We all like a winner and even more so when you have not had one for a while…

Gerard Mentor was well ridden by 10lb claiming jockey Kai Lenihan to win at Warwick yesterday.

No easy task as neither David Bass or Ciaran Gethings have managed to steer the elusive Gerard Mentor to the front of the race when passing the post…

Don’t get me wrong as GM has now won twice this summer, but he is not an easy ride and Kai followed his riding instructions to the letter..

Brilliant for Kai as it was his first winner since joining us, and on his second ride, but even more so for his owners John and Laura Garrett, Peter and Fiona Woodhall and Gwen Meacham.. Long suffering owners of a talented and at times an exasperating horse....

Thanks for the texts and emails.. Cornelius Lysaght sent this one.. ‘Told you that if they get over the first they run well’

Further huge prices at Tattersalls Book 1..

Nick Cook.. Nick was voted PCA Umpire of the Year last night at the big cricket award evening at The Hurlingham Club.. Well done Nick.....I don't for one minute think Nick will be feeling his best this morning? ...Rightly so..

For those of you who subscribe or have downloaded the Racing Post app will be able to read my Q&A

Friday morning and our all weather gallop is back in action having been turned..

Graham Potts was in this morning for his Friday vet visit.

Stevie Broadhurst, who worked here for about 6 years called in to say Hi and walk up the gallops..the first time she has walked it....

The first big day of jump racing today.. Chepstow hosts the big opening meeting of the season... Two days of good racing action.

''Due to the abandonment of Tuesdays racing at Huntington, The Jockey Club will be making a goodwill payment of £500 to the owner of each horse declared to run. We will also be making an additional payment to jockeys who hadnt yet ridden - the equivalent to a riding fee.

We make these payments as part of our commitments to participants.''

Good call from Huntingdon who hope to race next Tuesday.. Wincanton next Thursday has already been called off due to firm/hard ground..

I was meant to have my last days fishing on the Wye today but believe it or not the river went up 2 foot yesterday and is too dirty!! My fishing season over again.. and no fish caught on the Wye by me...ever..

The best of british comedy and how we need to laugh at the moment!
