Plus 6 and dry when driving in.

I just hope today is not a defining moment in all of our lives.. Victory Day..Putin! BBC

That worry aside it was a wonderful weekend of weather and the countryside is looking at its best.

The same can be said for all the three racecourse I attended over the weekend.

Haydock on Saturday is a stunning course.. once you get there.. the M5 and M6 do make it difficult at time..

Haydock produced good ground.. there was not any soft, but that was probably expected. Our owners were wonderfully looked after and their horse Shantou Express ran a blinder just failing to be 4th.. yes he finished 5th in what was a very competitive 3 mile handicap hurdle race.

We were thrilled as this horse started last season like many of mine.. not performing as they should.

I then drove down to Warwick were Shinobi ran as expected and he should now come down in the weights, all being well, and should find a suitable race mid summer..

We had a very happy team of KBRS owners for Shinobi who were there to enjoy a fun night out which was helped when Cathy Twiston-Davies invited them all in for a drink in the Directors room.. we joined the winners.. Roles will be reversed soon I hope.

There was a big crown at Ludlow yesterday.

I called in at Malvern to watch Archie bowl before heading through the stunning Worcestershire/Herefordshire/ Shropshire countryside to Ludlow..

Again a good turn out of KBRS owners to support Charming Getaway who frankly slightly disappointed.. He looked to be running a huge race, but he rather petered out in the home straight.. Post race he was too hot and uncomfortable and spent the night at TCEH’s..

Peaked Too Soon is so badly handicapped and it showed.. He ran well for a long way.. he needs to come down about 10lbs and he will be back on the winning trail..

Well done to Laura Collett.. A Badminton winner.. A huge result for our local event rider..A fearless performance over some huge uninviting obstacles..Laura shows she is fearless when jumping on my horses to teach them to jump!

Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike was a shock winner watch the race and then watch the race from above.. staggering..

We have just the one runner today at Southwell..

Rockys Treasure heads there and for my thoughts please click here.

A  very sad postscript to todays blog..

Gabe Mahon died yesterday afternoon..

A farmer and father of jockey/bloodstock agent Ryan and Point riders Ella, Leo and singer Lara.

Gabe was a great friend of Robert Chugg's and like Robert he had that special and very naught twinkle.. You always knew he was upto something..we saw him for three days at Cheltenham. . all too sad and very quick..

Deepest thoughts to his wife Cate and all the family..
