Plus 14 and dry when driving in. Thunderstorms on the way?
4 days in Wales was not something I was expecting.. I had hoped for a week in Italy of which a few days would have been in our favourite little hideaway hotel..
It was not to be, having been advised not to fly.
Instead a leisurely 2 and ¾ hour drive to Pembrokeshire to a little coastal town called Saundersfoot..
We booked into a hotel called St Brides and from there we planned a gastronomic few days with plenty of walking exercise….
We visited Tenby and met up with Atty and Celia B-R for a drink.. they have holidayed there all their lives, so helpful in thoughts and ideas..Outside that we eat at The Coast, The Stone Crab, Mad Toms and Y Polon and walked the local coastal paths and around Stackpole..
My thoughts on a first holiday in Wales..Stunningly beautiful.
The St Brides Hotel was very comfortable, well positioned and the staff were brilliant and so helpful..Andrew Evans the owner was a star too.
Nobody could believe we managed to get a table in The Stone Crab as it is usually has a 3 months booking waiting list..Excellent and very basic and the same could be said for Mad Toms.. both well more than worth a visit.. a must if in the area as their seafood was excellent.
The Coast a bit upmarket and rather different and nothing like as friendly.. perhaps it was because we wanted to sit outside?
Y Polon was a mistake (blame Scarlett Knipe), but a good one..
I was emailed by Scarlett Knipe who suggested it was a worth a visit.. I booked, but when I put the post code in the sat nav when leaving our hotel I saw that it was nearly an hour away.. saw signs to Ffos Las before we arrived.. Anyway it was a welcome change from seaford and again worth visiting.
Would we go again.. Yes most definitely.. things that stood out bar the excellent weather were our hotel and restaurants.. Also the excellent roads which had no pot holes, everything was so tidy.. even the layby's had no litter!..
All in all it was a really good experience and the locals were so incredibly helpful. Also thank you for all the emails and suggestions.. If we were there for a month we still would not find time to visit all your suggestions...
