Plus 5, drizzling and very foggy when driving in.

Market Rasen yesterday was described as soft and it was very very soft… Changed to heavy after the first. Hardly surprising when driving there as all the surrounding fields were well and truly flooded.

A mixed day for owner John Perriss as his mare Cloone Lady struggled on the ground but his The Drinkymeister wanted it, loved it and won.

Always pleased to see your owners win races although Drinky was having his first star for Henry Daly. I suggested to John that a change might help after his recent run at Wincanton and two weeks ago Drinky moved his bed to Shropshire and yesterday the ploy worked.

The Aintree meeting is now with us and today the gates open on the most exciting racecourse in the world..

We have two runners there today and all eyes will be on Guy Disney and Gallery Exhibition..

Yes a big day for Guy.. sadly ground conditions will be far from ideal as GE loves fast ground.. Whatever, it is some feat to even be there considering what Guy has been through. He will have a great experience and one that he will not forget.. Dreams are made of..

For my thoughts on Gallery Exhibition and our other runner Sea Story please click here.

As soon as Natasha Turney from BBC Points West had been here this morning to film The Last Samuri Clare and I decamped to Liverpool for two nights.

Being away for two days meant that Maddie Webster, who is taking over from Kerry Bellamy, has a chance to spend a couple of days in this office learning the ropes from Kerry.. I will not be here to distract..

Important to have a laugh.. especially after a bad day in the office..
