Plus 10 and dry when driving in.

Did we really have a heatwave last week? Quickly forgotten?

Not forgotten are David Bass and Ciaran Gethings who were in this morning.

Ciaran was still smiling over winning the bumper at Newton Abbot earlier this week on Jukebox Annie..

10 days ago she ceremoniously unshipped him at the start at Stratford having already dumped him twice on the way down.. We all gave him stick after, but he has had the last laugh!

Talking laugh.. Never very easy to do so when you are at the dentist.. Not that I am for a change, but our horses are..

Tom Siddall is here all week rasping and filing away at my nags teeth. Yes no laughing matter especially when you have a brace/gag over your teeth to keep your mouth open..

Graham Potts our vet was in this morning for his weekly Tuesday visit a day late.

Trainers have been patiently waiting for next years fixture list to appear.. Perhaps this is why.. many chages ahead?

Todays is..Back Britiah Farming Day..

There are very few people who you remember from your school days, but Alan Dowding was one..

Alan was a brilliant great cricketer who was incredibly kind and very popular man..

My near neighbour NTD knew his family far better than I did, but having said that I was thrilled to bump into Alan again when he was teaching Archie cricket when Archie was 11..

Alan said then that ‘Archie had great natural ability and if he were to keep it up could do well’.. He followed this up by saying ‘if he is like his father then I am not too sure.’. that was said with a wry smile on his face….(I think)

I don’t know whether this link will let you read his obituary that appeared in yesterdays Times .... I hope so..

A higher authority..

One day the telephone in the office of the rector of President Roosevelt’s Washington church rang, and an eager voice said, “Tell me, do you expect the President to be in church this Sunday?”

“That I cannot promise,” the rector explained patiently. “But we expect God to be there, and we fancy that will be incentive enough for a reasonably large attendance.”
