Plus 11, dry and foggy when driving in.. Rain on the way.. I do hope so..
Does He Know was certainly tired this morning after his heroic win at Cheltenham yesterday.. Top weight of 12 stone and 3 miles 3 furlongs to carry it but he won.. what a dream.. Fate?
This was not the race we had originally wanted to run him in.. He was knocked over at the first at Kelso a month ago and then he was meant to have run at Sandown last Sunday, but rain stopped play half way through the card.. just as DHK was about to enter the paddock..Yes fate..
Yesterday was a really tough race and I have to say that David Bass was at his best on him..
DHK has now run at Cheltenham 7 times, winning on 4 occasions....Every owner dreams of having a runner at Cheltenham and this well run KBRS (by Peter Kerr) 'Yes He Does Syndicate' really have had some wonderful days out with this lovely, if not quirky horse at the home of Jump racing..
DHK’s win made up for taking two horses to Cheltenham on Saturday and bringing them home without running..
I walked the course before racing and it was an easy decision not to run as it was far too fast for two horses who prefer softer ground.. Sorry for their owners as they were so looking forward to seeing their horses run. But 'when in doubt pull out'..or 'act in haste and repent at leisure.'
As you know I receive plenty of abusive emails etc.. but this is another example.. Samuel Pennington emailed to complain that taking horses out before racing was disgusting and showed no respect for punters.. Sadly he is wrong as the horses welfare is far more important, but then perhaps he could not care about welfare and horses?
With no runners at Cheltenham on Saturday it was left to Parc d’Amour to run at Uttoxeter.. He ran well to finish 3rd in what looked a way above average novice hurdle.. this former bumper winner will have learnt a great deal and should be winning soon.
So a good weekend .. made even better by England winning the T20 World Cup.
One final weekend mention .. Rupert Longsdon celebrated his 50th birthday with a dinner for 70 friends in a marquee at his home on Saturday night .. What an evening and for those of you who thought I looked a shade bleary eyed racing will now know why!..
Rupert had a really tough time during Covid with his excellent travel business, but all I can say is if you are looking to book a really good skiing holiday (Oxford Ski Co) or other sort then I suggest you ring him and mention my name.. you might even get a discount?....Sadly my skiing days are over.
Monday morning and David Bass and Keilan Woods were in.. Keilan has two rides for us tomorrow.
We jumped Picks Lad, Thruthelookinglass, Big Suze, El Presente and Percy Veering
Cherry Jones was here late morning to see her hombred horse Rose and Thistle.
We have two runners today at Leicester.. Lets Go Amigo and Samatian run there and for my thoughts please click here.
