Plus 1 and dry when driving in.

We all like surprises don't we?

Last night at Kempton Sunblazer did just that. It was the WOW factor for Joey Morris who was riding his first ever winner.

Joey started yesterday by being mistaken for David Bass while riding out here, and finished by being mistaken for Ed Cookson when arriving at the races. What a way to ruin your day.. Certainly not..

Last nights race was run at breakneck speed, which was daft, as two horses took each other on from the flag fall and although we were someway behind Joey did not panic. Sunblazer and Joey looked out of it down the far side but then the first two predictably  folded and the race changed as it became a true stayers race; Joey was brave not to panic and then rode a strong finish to win by ¾ of a length.

Excited scenes after from all his family and of course from his owner Norman Carter and his entourage.

It was a great win for Norman, and obviously Joey who will never forget Sunblazer or perhaps the 4 day ban he received from the Stewards for over use of the whip (exuberance?).

Yes the race fell apart and we benefitted from others  mistakes which did not stop furious emails from people saying I had put them away with my insights!

I have to admit that none of us really expected him to win as I said in my insights ''Sunblazer is back in trip which will be difficult for him.. he is more than capable of being placed and should be but probably will find one too good to win’’.

Sunblazer was a 12/1 shot in the morning papers which was about his right level.

All Joey’s family turned up to watch him last night and their attendance certainly doubled the size of the crowd and all understandably had a few pounds on their boy.. Market Mover? Well that what happens when most of the paying crowd have their £10s on .

Sunblazer has been a little star for us.. Bought originally to try and win the Triumph hurdle which obviously did not happen and although Sunblazer did win over hurdles it was certainly not his first love.

Norman Carter bought him back when he went to the sales in July to have some fun flat racing and that he has. Last nights win was Sunblazer's second win for Norman and fourth for us ..one hurdle and three on the all-weather.

It does make you wonder when you can run at Kempton, or for that matter on any all weather track and win £4523.27; alternatively you could have gone to Ludlow a couple of days ago to win £2599.20 in a competitive novice hurdle in bottomless ground!

Moving on.Thursday is our easy day and we have no runners today or tomorrow.. all-weather racing included.

Happy New Year..
