14th March 2020

Plus 7 and drizzling when driving in.

We will look back and say that the last for days were the best four days of racing this year..firstly because it was and secondly there might not be much more?

The Gold Cup was as good a race as I have ever watched.. It was Al Boum Photo winning back to back Gold Cups, but what a finish..

The day started with the drama of the last hurdle unseat of Jamie Moore at the last when Goshen had the race at his mercy and ended with the oldest virgin in racing getting his end away..

Yes Paul Webber won the last race of the meeting with the Schiaparelli mare Indefatigable..

Our two horses ran with so well.. Happygolucky was 4th but would have been 3rd bar for nearly being brought to a standstill when Column Of Fire fell at the last, while Espoir De Romay played a big part in the race but tired close home to finish down the field.

It really has been the most extraordinary week.. Fabulous racing and yet again the sport can hold its head high, but we also felt like we were living in a bubble as with all sport and most of the country closing down.. we carried on and  we raced..But for how much longer?

We at Thorndale can look back on the week with pride too. Vinndication ran a blinder to finish 4th .. a huge weight carrying performance.. if the ground had been better? Well who knows, but it was a staggering effort from horse and rider.

Imperial Aura lived up to his reputation of being a well handicapped horse with huge ability and won his race easily..Newtide ran well for a very long way but did not see out the trip but we rightly proud of his run.. he finished 5th.

To end the meeting Espoir De Romay and Happygolucky did their bit in the last.

It was a special week and one that we will look back on and say.. Yes it was good.. A Festival winner..

A big huge thanks to all the team here.. Mat, Leigh, George who lead and work so hard have done well.. Roll on next year ..

I just wonder what it will be like in 12 months times? The racing world needs to be strong and so do we as the next 6 months is not going to be much fun..

Saturday morning..

David Bass and Ciaran Gething were in to ride out a couple of lots.

Gwen Meacham was here third lot to see her KBRP horses Voyburg and Gerard Mentor

Pam and Ian Farnsworth were also here third lot to see their KBRP horses Pond Road and Silver Kayf.

We have no runners today, but we do have First Flow running at Carlisle tomorrow, if it goes ahead.. Inspection tomorrow morning because of a very wet forecast. If FF runs then please click here for my thoughts..

Have a great weekend and I wonder what next weeks news will be.. I worry..

Not much fun around at the moment..The Racing Post has created a new record.. for being the most expensive daily paper.. £3.90 today!!
