Minus 8 and strangely dry when driving in.
Driving to Southwell yesterday Mat was convinced that by the time I arrived it would be called off. It happened to him one day at Newcastle as he arrived.. he was driving the horsebox that day!!
Racing was put back about 20 minutes while the jockeys gave the all clear for racing to take place.. Some trainers were worried and took their horses out, but quite honestly I thought the ground was fine.. but they had already run 4 races on the course by the time I got there.
We had a good turn out of owners to watch General Hubble and all stood in the sunshine in the paddock forgetting that it was bordering on minus 1. Sadly their horse was not in the mood for warming the spirits..
You have to feel for Southwell as a racecourse as they try, which is more than can be said for some.. But they have been properly flooded and all the walls up to about 5 foot have been stripped of all furnishings and there is plenty to do before the general public will be allowed back in as paying guests.
Dentist for me first thing this morning which meant that I missed John Perriss calling in to say goodbye to his mare Lady Of Night..
LOTN is about to head off to a new home away from racing.. Mrs B who is in charge of that side of our business has found a wonderful new home for LOTN..
