Plus 8 and damp when driving in.
Rain around again last night which can only be good news.
Michael Storey celebrated a birthday yesterday and his wife Angie set about entertaining 20 mates for dinner last night and we were lucky enough to catch the selectors eye.
Great food, good company and certainly excellent fine wine which was always going to be the case as Michael is behind the well know local wine business 'The Savage Selection' run by Master Of Wine Mark Savage...Suffice to say that it was a late night and no ill feelings this morning.
Somebody who does have ill feelings this morning is trainer Hughie Morrison who yesterday was charged with a failed dope test for steroids found in one of the horses in his care.. A criminal offence in racing.
I know Hughie well and I for one would vouch for him and know that he would certainly not have used any form of steroid on one of his horses, but Hughie is in charge and one of his lowly horses was found to have the banned drug Nandrolone in her blood system.
Zero tolerance is important and Hughie has been a huge advocate for this tough line. Of course he has no idea how Nandrolone has arrived in the blood test and as you can imagine no stone has been left un turned while he and others try and find the source.
I wrote some time ago on here that we trainers are open to all sorts of abuse and one of the big worries is that an ex employee with a grudge could all too easily create havoc by injecting a horse with a banned substance when no one is looking.
It is sadly all too easy for stable staff to get hold of something and inject a horse.
I am not suggesting here that this is the case but if you have a suspicious mind you can see it happening.
We now have forms that owners and trainers have to sign when horses move from stable to stable so we have dates to prove the health of horses in our care..We take on trust that when we send our horses away that they come back clean..
Yes Dick Francis eat your heart out..but the buck stops at the top..
Tom Bellamy was in this morning to ride out a couple of lots.
We have no runners today.
A man was riding on a London bus minding his own business when the gorgeous woman next to him started to breast-feed her baby.
The baby wouldn't take it so she said, "Come on sweetie, eat it all up or I'll have to give it to this nice man next to us."
Five minutes later the baby was still not feeding, so she said, "Come on, honey. Take it or I'll give it to this nice man here."
A few minutes later the anxious man blurted out, "Come on kid. Make up your mind! I was supposed to get off four stops ago at Shepherd`s Bush!"
