Plus 14 and dry when driving in..

I was delighted to finish second yesterday.. Of course not.. but I was impressed with Yanworth and I was impressed with our Charbel.

Yanworth beat us fair and square and is now currently heading the Supreme Novice Hurdle Cheltenham Festival betting market.

Charbel ran bloody well and beat some pretty decent animals.. He is still learning about racing over hurdles and would prefer far better ground; he is a lovely horse who has size and scope and is still improving.

Yes I hate being second but yesterday Julie and David Martin’s horse finished 2nd and picked up more prize money than if they had won both novice hurdles at Newbury last week and to add they also picked up £1000.00 in appearance money. Yes Ascot is always a joy, even when you fail to win a race!

Dermot Clancy said the same.. His Crazy Jack ran down the field, probably as expected as he hated the ground. But as Dermot said .. the way they were looked after as owners yesterday was out of this world and he wondered why on earth he pays for a Box in the Grandstand.. He said it would be better value to own a few more horses and have runners at every meeting just to have the owners lunch and wine.. I of course agreed.. Dermot look out.. I am off shopping..

Good to see Alan Lee yesterday at the races. Alan who is The Times racing correspondent has had a tough time recently; heart surgery has curtailed his writing activities.. Anyway he was out and about yesterday looking well.

David Bass was in for two lots this morning while Richie McLernon was in for one.

We have a routine here and we stick to it come what may. 7.15 is first lot all the year round.

Pitch dark when we worked a few first lot. Bandon Roc, Battle Dust, Boolavard King, Cascaye, Emily Gray, Mr Beatle, Nam Hai and Texas Forever were a few who worked.

We jumped Mollys A Diva and The Last Samuri over fences.

Duncan Williams and his brother Mick were here second lot to see last weeks Doncaster winner Flemensmix. Duncan heads The Perfect Mix Racing Club who own this lovely grey..

Margaret Carnell was here third lot to see her KBRP horse Our Belle Aime.

Peter Kerr came up trumps again and cooked a brilliant breakfast for all while wearing his new KCB jacket!

We have no runners today or tomorrow and possibly one on Monday and that its it until Boxing Day.

The School of Psychology, Harvard University, conducted a survey called "What really do you see?"

People were asked to focus their attention on a simple picture (on the right) and then asked if they had noticed anything odd.

Now you have the chance to take part in this survey.

Study the picture for about a minute; then identify what you see that is HORRENDOUS.

Results of the Survey:

1. 100% of males failed this test. They were distracted by the bosom.

2. 100% of the females also failed this test. They were distracted by the wide choice of doughnuts.

The real answer:

There's a mouse on one of the doughnuts..

Have a great weekend and see you on Monday.
