Plus 7 and dry when driving in. Shortest day of the year..the outlook can only become brighter..
It was a sunny and warm day at Taunton yesterday. My first step on this racecourse in Somerset for a year or two.
On arrival I was immediately collared by Luke Harvey who asked me to wish viewers of ATR a Very Happy Christmas.. All good except I was forced to wear a silly hat.. If you watch ATR on Friday you could well see me in my new trilby?
None of the three representative of the WOW partnership wore silly hats but they did enjoy watching their horse Bandon Roc run with promise. Bandon Roc struggled around the tight bends but finished 6th. More to come from him in the New Year I hope.
David Bass was in this morning. We worked a few and jumped Boy In A Bentley Knockanrawley Harry Topper, Alfies Choice, Thumb Stone Blues, Red Spinner, Jimmy The Jetpane, Charbel, Vital Evidence, Cacaye, Jupiters Choice, Aunty Ann, and Mr Brinkley A video of some of the horses schooling can be viewed here
We have three runners today; two at Ffos Las and one at Ludlow. For my thoughts please click here.
Leigh's Blog..
''Taunton is a nice place when the sun shines as it did today. - It is a bit bleak when it rains or is foggy, it is just a shame everything is so far apart!!
They have made improvements to the wash down bays, from just a few hoses on a small piece of concrete to proper divided bays with warm powerful hoses, this makes thing much easier! They have also added a few more taps down the rows of stables when they used to only have 2 taps by the hoses.
Scampi and chips from the canteen on the way home, followed by homemade Christmas cake, all for only £5.50!
The race sponsors kindly awarded Bandon Roc the best turned out prize, no mean feat in a field of 17. That takes our tally to 53 for the season, is it too ambitious to aim for 60 turnout prizes by the end of the year....?''
If My Body Were a Car! (This is not part of Leighs blog!)
If my body was a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model.
I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish and my paint job is getting a little dull...But that's not the worst of it.
My headlights are out of focus, And it's especially hard to see things up close.
My traction is not as graceful as it once was. I slip and slide and skid and bump into things even in the best of weather.
My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins..
It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed. My fuel rate burns inefficiently.
But here's the worst of it.
Almost every time I sneeze, cough or sputter, Either My Radiator Leaks or My Exhaust Backfires!
Depressing?
