Plus 6 and dry when driving in.

The end of half term and with no runners meant that Archie and I were able to play a round of golf at Royal Shipton yesterday afternoon.

My god the ground was wet and it made me realise that Mike Evans and his team do the most unbelievable job to keep his course open in such conditions.. all that work. It is not only race horse trainers who complain about the vagaries of the weather.

Tom Clarkson and Henry Morshead were in to ride out this morning.

Karen Master called in third lot to see her KBRP horses Our Belle Amie and Knockanrawley. KAR is sadly on the sidelines for the rest of the season.

I have said it before but please can those giving Victoria Pendleton grief over her riding stop doing so.

We have somebody in VP who everybody in the country has heard of and who has done us proud in the Olympics and now she is trying to achieve a personal goal that she has set herself; we would take that on board and thank her.

VP is bringing our sport off the back pages and onto the news channels. She is refreshing honest and genuinely loves what she is doing. We should embrace and help her.

Two things have come out of her riding.. one is it shows how bloody difficult it is to ride a winner and secondly how incredibly difficult it is to ride and be a jockey unless you have done it all your life.. I am sure I would fall of my bike!

There have been plenty of amateurs who have supported by parents who have ridden worse and will always do so..

A true golf buddie..

This guy brings his best golf buddy home, unannounced, for dinner at 6:30, after golf.

His wife screams her head off while his friend sits open mouthed and listens to the tirade.

"My hair is a mess, I'm not wearing makeup, the house is a bloody mess, the dishes aren't done. Can't you see I'm still in my damn pyjamas and I can't be bothered with cooking tonight? Why the hell did you bring him home unannounced, you stupid idiot?''

Because he is thinking of getting married!
