Plus 6 and dry when driving in.

Thursday is as you know our easy day for our horses and every day is becoming easier as we head towards May.

We started turning well roughed off horses out yesterday for the first time.. When I say well roughed off I mean horses who have had no rugs on for at least 3 weeks, so they have become used to cold weather and their coats are full of dust and oil.. i.e. not brushed to shine!

The BHA have announced their race changes for the coming winter season. The most significant is the removal of the Tolworth hurdle from Sandown to Aintree’s new Boxing day meeting.

It will be interesting to see how Aintree fill their racecourse on Boxing Day (their first time) as all their meetings, bar the 3 day Grand National Festival, really do feel lifeless and devoid of crowd numbers..

Huntingdon have lost their BD meeting to Aintree which was always their biggest day..Hummmm..

Punchestown yet again did not disappoint.. .

Excellent racing and can you believe the first three races did not a W Mullins runner, but he still had three winners on the day, even though he did not win the main event.

Their Gold Cup was just a brilliant race to watch.

Watching the battle between Galopin Des Champs and Bravemansgame (who was jumping for fun) unfold was certainly made you sit up and watch..and the camera angles made it look even more impressive..

The end result was enthralling and frankly watching Punchestown bathed in sun and on wonderful old green grass and huge wide open spaces made for truly amazing viewing.. Yes the result was a shock when Fastorslow sailed passed them..but you really need to watch this race..

Who said racing times were set in stone.. The biggest flat race of the year The Derby has moved its race time so as not to clash with the FA Cup final..

Racings funding holds it breath for todays long awaited Gambling Review..

We have one runner today at Warwick.. Artic Saint heads there and for my thoughts please click here

I agree with Bob Monkhouse when he said Jameson’s  'Irish Whiskey really does improve with age.. The older I get the more I like it..'

Mind you Errol Flynn said. 'I like my whiskey old and my women young'…. Not sure he would get away with saying that now!!

To finish..Happy birthdays to The Duke Of Devonshire and Mary Cookson..the better half of Ed!
