28th April 2018

Plus 5 and raining when driving in.

Back on with the winter cloths and waterproof trousers..

Well at least we finished the season with a winner, and with our last runner..Bandon Roc.. His win made it 4 on the trot over hurdles.

When Bandon Roc passed the post in front at Towcester last night it took our tally to 48 for the season. ..Annoying not to hit the half century.

Mikey Hamill, who rode Bandon Roc, lost his right to claim 5lbs .. Last nights win meant that Mikey now claims only 3lbs.. He has had a good season and well done to him.. A grafter.

Horrendous conditions for the last week in April. Summer might have been here briefly last week, but this week it has been cold and wet and yesterday it was just awful.

Towcester looked dreadful and loads of non runners, while Chepstow was very soft and heavy in places and again loads of non runners.. So much for waiting for better ground to end the season with.

Today is the last day of the 2017/2018 jumps season..

Nicky Henderson will be crowned Champion English trainer, while over in Ireland Willie Mullins will be crowned Irish Trainer after what has been an extraordinary week for him.. Both men are superb at their job..

The firepower of Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott’s stables is just mind blowing. They have run 242 and 310 individual horses respectively.. Nicky Henderson has run 153 runners, while Dan Skelton, who has numerically the biggest yard in England, he has run 215..

My heart went out for Gordon Elliott when Samcro fell..My god it has been a bloody tough week for him...

Moving on to a wet and cold Saturday morning ..David Bass was in this morning.

I believe we hosted our last CD Tours of the season too when Lynda and Keith Lightfoot, Hayley Hamlett, Jean Green and Philippa and Philip Jones joined us for a morning on the gallops and breakfast. Hot toddies needed..

No Jump racing for a week.. yes holiday time..

Tomorrow Simon Claisse and Annabel England host the Cotswold Country Home Car Boot Sale & Family Dog Show held in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and sponsored by Harrison James & Hardie….10am to 4pm in Naunton.. GL54 3AJ.. Come along and support if you can.. Our car boot will have plenty on sale too..

Paddy decides to take up boxing and goes for the required medical.

A few days later the doctor phones and says Paddy, you realise you’ve got sugar diabetes.

Paddy says, Nice one, when do I fight him?

On that note..Have a great weekend.. see you on Monday..

To finish..Last night at Chepstow I was told that my blog was like reading racings version of the Archers!!
