Minus 2 and dry when driving in.
16 mm of rain fell here yesterday.. so welcome.
That was a long day yesterday, but the good news was that David Bass slept most of the journey home from Ireland so at least he was fresh enough to ride out after an hours kip on my sofa..
Going back to Punchestown.. First their staff were amazing and we were well looked after.. yes locked up in our hotel, but when let out they were so helpful..Shona Dreaper went out of her way to help, and as for Richie Galway and his team their efforts to produce such amazing ground was an example all courses should learn from .. It was a carpet and genuinely good to soft ground..
First Flow made the course look tight.. He really struggled with the undulations and the bends and as a result he was never looked happy.. Outclassed probably, but one dimensional as one suggested he is not..his future lies back at Ascot and Sandown next season.. Leigh Pollard my travelling head girl rang to say that he is fine, and they both return here on Friday morning.
I was lucky enough to have my second covid injection yesterday and as I walked into the Cotswold Hospital in Moreton in the Marsh I sat between Andrew Pease and Ian Emes..Andrew lives locally and supplied many of my daily jokes while Ian used to be stud manager for Coln Valley Stud..
Frankly while I was sitting there waiting for my jab I was congratulating myself for being fortunate enough to be born in this country and being able to have my second jab when so many in this world have not even lucky enough to have had one..
..I then went home to discuss decorating my kitchen..!
Bob Champion was here for his charity walk yesterday.. Kerry Bellamy joined and popped into the office to help with the coffee making.. George Smith co sponsor was here with his horsebox.. All of us walked the gallops and back.. Bob is certainly busy and hoping to raise over 40k for his efforts.. Please click here if you would like to help him make his total and more..
Good to watch Punchestown last night and to witness an English winner. Clan Des Obeaux a worthy winner of their Gold Cup.
Thursday is our easy day.
