29th April 2017

Plus 6 and dry when driving in.

Well that’s the 2016/2017 jumps season over for us even if Mullins/Elliott and Henderson/Nicholls are still battling it out for one more day.

Our season finished with a winner.

Such A Legend made all last night at Chepstow; jumping brilliantly, SAL bravely held on by a shortest of margins under a typical David Bass ride giving owner/breeder Sandra Steer-Fowler a much deserved tearful moment.

The Real Partnership of Tim and Anita Dymond and Martyn and Sandra Steer-Fowler were all there last night to see their Chestnut boy do his stuff.. SAL was our 43 winner of the season one more than last year in what has been a very difficult season for us.

Of our other runners.. Royal Supremo ran well but probably did not quite see out the 3 miles after his longish break.. he was a bit keen to get on with it. Trojan Star tried to fall which is not something he has tried before.. that scuppered his chances although he still finished well enough to finish 4th.. Our final intended runner Nicely Indeed was a non runner due to the very fast hurdle track at Chepstow.. It was forecasted to be.

So we finished the jump season with 43 winners, 58 seconds, 43 thirds and 35 fourths..Yes it was a nearly season.. Two months without a winner and hardly a runner did not help..

What a great day to finish and celebrated the jumps season. Sandown in England and Punchestown in Ireland. Henderson should be crowned Champion Trainer and Richard Johnson will be crowned Champion Jockey while over in Ireland Mullins has just taken the lead over Elliott so as yet it is all to play for... 4 top trainers.. Wow what a season and what racing we have seen over the last 12 months on both side of the Irish sea.

Tonight to finish a day of Champions we have the boxing and lucky Martyn Steer-Fowler is going.

David Bass was in this morning and we jumped Minella Warrior, Jupiters Gift, Nicely Indeed, Our Belle Amie, Champion Chase, Billy Elliott, Mon Palois, Biscuit and Robin The Raven over the plastic hurdles on the all weather

Although we have no runners today Mrs B and I are going to Sandown with Martin and Steve Broughton who has taken a box to celebrate their birthdays..

We do have one runner tomorrow.. Our flat string starts up.. Sunblazer runs at Salisbury and for my thoughts on his chances please click here..

A few more Oxymorons to  consider...

Why is bra singular and panties  plural?

Why do you press harder on the buttons of a remote  control when you know the batteries are dead?

Why do we put  suits in garment bags and garments in a suitcase?

How come  abbreviated is such a long word?

Why do we wash bath  towels? Aren't we clean when we use them?

Why doesn't glue stick to the inside of the bottle?

Why do they call it  a TV set when you only have one?

Christmas – What other time of year do you sit in front of a dead tree and eat candy out of your  socks?

Why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

Something to do around here over the weekend. You have a choice Withington Horse trials and The Jazz Festival in Cheltenham..or you can sit in front of your computer and read Marcus Armytage article on Champion jockeys..
