Plus 11 and dry when driving in.

Great to have a winner yesterday at Ffos Las with the stunning Phantom Getaway but on the whole it was a very frustrating weekend.

Saturday at Aintree Two For Gold ran well to finish 5th..

He was not that happy being back on the course after the Grand National or was it the fact that he kicked his lass Lauren Hawkins and he felt guilty?..

Lauren who looks after and knows TFG well made the mistake of trusting him while washing him down on arrival at the racecourse.. TFG kicked out and caught her elbow and funny bone which meant 6 hours in A&E and stitches .. and a few days off work!! She will be OK, as will her horse..

Aintree do well at looking after owners and TFG owners Kevin Clancy, Stephen Cannon and I had a fun afternoon, although you have to say that the smaller meetings at Aintree lack atmosphere especially compared to the GN meeting in April..

El Presente ran probably the best race of his career to finish 4th in the Badger Beer Chase at Wincanton..Visored for the first time he ran with zest but a mistake at the wrong time cost him 3rd place.. But I was very happy with his run.

Where to I start with Sunday..

I drove the two horses to Sandown where racing was abandoned after 3 races..Of course it was wet and after over an inch of rain we knew that.. The jockeys were happy to race as were trainers, but the course officials were worried about horse and human ambulances getting stuck… Better be safe than sorry? But surely they have tougher conditions during the winter to cope with?.

Non runners on the day are expensive for owners.. They pay for transport, stable staff and of course a very expensive driver!.. In my opinion they should have carried on..

Going back to Ffos Las. Galante De Romay (third) and Starvoski (fourth) both ran better races than they did on the first starts last season.. So with PG winning there that was a good meeting.

Aiden Murphy and I bought Phantom Getaway at Doncaster Goffs sales after he won his Irish Point to Point.. He remined me of Mr Frisk when walking round the sales ring and when I told that to Irish point jockey Derek O’Connor he looked at me blankly as he had no idea who Mr Frisk was.. but a week later he text me to say that having watched a replay of Mr Frisk win the 1990 Grand National on Twitter he now realised why I had bought him..

PG is now owned by the Peter Kerr run KBRS 'PG Tipsters' who are John Benson, Garry Betley, Vince Burmingham, Brian Cognet, Christopher Hill, Jeremy Hooper Allan James, John Lawson, Steve Jaggard, Richard and Sheila Mordan Paul Martin and Stewart Wright who sadly died a month ago so now his share is owned by his wife Bev and son Jack and daughter Alice..For many it was their first winner.. well done all.
