JULY NEWSLETTER 2017
Dear All
Well we’ve had quite a summer of hot weather.. well in June…Royal Ascot too hot? Fabulous racing and ITV were very good at covering it.
Our month was a quiet one. Although we had very few runners we did manage to have a couple of winners and with most of the horses out at grass we have had the stable yard steam cleaned from top to bottom in preparation for the new winter season ahead.
I have been to all the sales that took place in June. I ended up buying two at both the Landrover Goffs Sales and the Derby Sales at Tattersalls. Horses with big futures we hope. These sales are where the future talent comes from and those dreams are perhaps why the prices were so staggeringly high. Records have been broken at all the summer sales this year which is pretty astounding.
Now that we are in July the horses are returning to Thorndale having had their summer breaks. It is always an exciting time of year as they are all potential winners.. which of course they will be.
We do look like having the best bunch of horses for many years and the excitement is there for all to see. We are always trying to improve the facilities at Thorndale and we are currently digging out the footings for a new 2furlong round sand gallop which when completed I’m sure will be a huge asset and addition to our facilities.
Have a great month and I will be back in August with a further update.
JUNE UPDATE
June was a very quiet month runner wise for us with only eight runners in the whole month but we did have two winners, a second and a third.
Sonneofpresenting gave us our first win of June at Fontwell where he won impressively under David Bass for his owners Paul and Clare Rooney.
Jupiter’s Gift was also third the same night and showed us that a slightly longer trip might help.
Robin The Raven won the near 3 mile novice hurdle well and gave his enthusiastic owners John Webber and Richard Sheppard another good days racing. It was their second win of the season with Robin The Raven.
Our last runner of the month was Forgotten Hero who was returning from a long break to start a newish career over hurdles where he finished second and good start to his career over hurdles.
An athletic rough diamond, Dusty Pearl is by Frozen Fire (Irish Derby Winner). He finished second in a 2m 4f point to point, only beaten just over 2 lengths by Article Fifty, who subsequently made £115,000 at Goffs sales.
Only a week later Dusty Pearl was placed in a 2m 1f bumper at Aintree. Dusty Pearl finished very strongly failing to get second by a nostril. The form of this race is working out well with the fifth horse winning his next race.
