MARCH NEWSLETTER 2018
Dear All
Wow that really was a tricky start to the month. March, snow and more snow. Just what you need when the Cheltenham Festival is just over a week away.
Going back. February was a good month for us with some decent winners and young horses to follow. Both Vinndication and Red River won their Cheltenham trials impressively and now we have to see if they are good enough to go there. It sets us up with some interesting horses for The Festival. The Last Samuri, Charbel and possibly First Flow are the others who could well be heading there.
Sad really when you come to think about it but The Cheltenham Festival is the be all and end all for so many jump racing folk. Sad that jump racing does not have the festivals that flat racing does, they have Chester, Goodwood, York, Newmaket but we only have Cheltenham and to a lesser extent Aintree. Even Ireland has more recognised festivals. Where are we going wrong?
Anyway we must move on and enjoy what is just around the corner. A Festival winner is just so important and I hope we have one.
FEBRUARY REVIEW
Red River showed vastly improved form for a minor wind operation when winning the Albert Bartlett Scottish Trial hurdle at Musselburgh.
It was a very sound performance, and like when he last ran at Sandown he travelled like a winner, but unlike Sandown where he stopped like he was shot (he finished 3rd), this time he changed gear and kicked for home and frankly if he had not tried to fall at the third and second last hurdle he would have won even more impressively.
Red River is a very exciting horse and well done to his team of owners in Brain and Linda Cognet and Chris Trigg who were there to see him win, and to John and Laura Garrett, Sally Grant and Caroline Swire were unable to make it.
Vinndication - What a star! He was truly impressive when winning the feature race at Huntingdon, The Sidney Banks Memorial Novice hurdle. What more can I say but 4 from 4 so far in his career. This big friendly horse will keep on improving as he is only just learning about racing. He jumps for fun and just loves racing, what more could you ask for.. Peter Kerr heads a very happy team of owners the Moremoneythan syndicate
Rosmuc Relay was impressive winning his second hurdle race yesterday. He seems to love soft ground, which is rare for a son of Presenting.
This big horse who was bought by Aiden Murphy for John Perriss at the Tattersalls Cheltenham December sale has now won both of his hurdle starts and looks a very progressive horse. He is crying out for 3 miles and fences.. that is for next season..
Yes John has a horse to dream about when he goes chasing which is what John loves.
David Bass gave Rosmuc Relay a very canny ride as it was not to late on in the race that he galvanised RR to win.
We reached a season milestone of 40 winners when Two For Gold won the bumper at Doncaster.
Yes Two For Gold carried a penalty which is not something you do too often.
The race sounded eventful and that is what it was as Two For Gold drifted across the course and ran very green when he hit the front, he just held on from a fast finishing horse of Henry Daly’s.
Kevin Clancy was the only representative of The May We Never Be Found Out Partnership.. He was happy and Doncaster must be his lucky course as last time he was there his partnership horse The Rainbow Hunter won the SkyBet Chase.
I do hope you have enjoyed catching up on our news; don't forget we would love to have you involved in the yard if you are not already; we are just a phone call away.
All the best

One of the most sought after titles in racing is decided on the final day of The Festival™ and always promises to provide the greatest spectacle. The Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup is a race associated with elite of the sport and nothing can rival the Cheltenham roar as the horses charge up the famous hill.
The BetBright Prestbury Cup at The Festival
Celebrating the annual challenge between Great Britain and Ireland for Festival winners. To celebrate this rivalry, the competition between the two countries is officially titled The BetBright Prestbury Cup.
In 2017, for the second year running, there were more Irish-trained winners at The Festival than British-trained, with Ireland taking home the cup on the final day of The Festival.
The Cup itself has been sealed with some hallowed Cheltenham turf, so the winning country will be taking a little bit of Cheltenham with them.
Best of luck, or as they say in Ireland, Is fearr de luck!
