Plus 9 and drizzling when driving in.

It was a long drive to Doncaster yesterday and thankfully I was offered a day away from the wheel when Frances Howard who runs the Highclere Racing Jumps team took the strain..Strain it was too, as for a while as we thought we might not make it in time to see Alfie Corbitt run as the M1 was closed and the M18 was gridlocked.. we made it just in time to see AC run.

His last run was on heavy at Ffos Las and this time we have the other extreme of good to firm..

It was good to soft at Doncaster on Thursday with rain forecasted.. yes you guessed it is missed the racecourse and the surrounding area and Donny’s ground was very quick..AC was run off his feet and finished down the field.

It was a long wait then to see Mon Palois whose was odds on for his race. We saw MP in the paddock, he won best turned out but he did not run.

Racing was abandoned while we stood in the paddock .. A horse had fallen on the bend in the race before and stewards, jockeys and trainer (me) were summonsed to look at the track and it was fairly obvious the hurdle track was very slippery and the stewards rightly called the rest of the meeting off..

Bloody annoying for all but in the need for safely it was the right call. Poor Elizabeth was sent home with expenses and no runner…

Home last night and a quick turn around to Archie’s school in Malvern to listen to ex Northamptonshire cricketer Patrick Foster talk about his gambling addiction…

Saturday mornings are usually busy and today was no exception .. Only trouble is timings.. racing starts so early at this time of year. Jockeys David Bass and Tom Bellamy were in to ride out. We worked plenty and jumped Dandy Dan and Red River.

Dave and Rebecca Smith were here for a morning on the gallops and breakfast as booked through CD tours. Darren Smith, Christopher Hill and his father were all here to see their KBRP horses Vinndication and Arthurs Sixpence.

We have four runners today. I am heading to Bangor to saddle Wandrin Star and Diva Reconce while Mat is heading to Newbury to saddle Diamond Gait and Rockys Treasure and for my thoughts on their respective chances please click here.

Great racing around the country today.. Sit back and enjoy.
